Back to the op...

I play my monk from time to time. Healing/protting in PvE is fun imo, and i typically run a monk 50% of the time i run as a healer (the other 50%, i run as a resto rit). I never really smite b/c if i want to do damage, i have far more fun running a physical class or a mesmer.

You deceptively picked a skill that does damage over time, made up numbers that are far off, and don't considering anything else about a skill. How is that not saying much?

Has anyone tried to come up with a build based around around monks with scythes that is successful?

If you have two skills that have no damage over time effect, the armor ignoring one that does 30 is superior to the armor sensitive one that does 60-70 by what you say. Don't run around and ignore the attribute something's in, it's area range, recharge time, or assume a foe is going alway stand in AoE if it doesn't die before the skills full effect.

I've recently returned from a much neded break and have been playing my Monk a lot since I got back, it seems they are sitll useful as a sole healing class in places like DOA, or whatever. Yet, I suppose that could be replaced by an experienced Resto Rit. Nonetheless, I find Monking a lot of fun but I enjoy the pressure and can usually keep my team alive.

I still play my monk quite often, although that's mainly when there's other players in the party. I enjoy heal/protting (especially protting) a lot, but when you're playing alone with h/h it's just way too frustrating. You can call targets all you like but in the end, odds are the one you called will still be the last one to die...

Considering there are four old professions and 4 new ones in GW2, and the four old ones are already present, I don't think the monk will be making a direct comeback.

No they won't...no dedicated healers. But like I said before there is a possibility that a real monk might emerge with fists and prayers to aid them in close combat.

They'd have to change the name, or it wouldn't be "new".

A monk by any other name is still a monk if you ask me.

Sorry for coming back this late

It's a very standard spirit spammer build, nothing impressive:

It would still be nice if it was called the Monk and don't see why as Monks aren't just healers and maybe used magic sword as opposed to shield and mace.

To Swahnee thanks.

My main in my Monk. I love playing a support role and am not thrilled about them not being around for GW2. But I'll just have to look for another class then. I started on an Ele, but quickly moved over to Monk.

There will still be supportive abilities in GW2, you just won't see dedicated healing. So far, necromancer sounds like a decent support class, if you really want to be one. Anet has said that some professions will be more attuned to it than others, so there will likely be a new class that can do even more.

Remaining four professions: at least one is a returning profession, at least one is similar with a different name, and at least one is new.
